Eric Blinderman served from March of 2004 until December of 2006 in Iraq, first as an Associate General Counsel of the Coalition Provisional Authority and later as Chief Legal Counsel and Associate Deputy to the Regime Crimes Liaison’s Office. During his time in Iraq, Eric worked primarily with the Iraqi High Tribunal as it prepared to try members of the former regime (including Saddam Hussein) for atrocities committed against the Iraqi people. Since October of 2005, Eric has served as the principal U.S. attorney responsible for advising Trial Chamber 1 of the Iraqi High Tribunal on all matters of law and procedure as it tried Saddam Hussein and seven other co-defendants for crimes against humanity committed against the civilian population of Ad-Dujayl. Eric has a J.D. cum laude from Cornell Law School and was awarded an M.St. in international law from the University of Oxford with distinction. In addition, he has served as a law clerk to a United States Federal Judge and worked at the United Nations Development Program, the Preparatory Commission for the Establishment of an International Criminal Court, and the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy. He is currently on special leave from the New York office of Proskauer Rose LLP and plans on returning there as the firm’s newly appointed International Litigation Counsel.
